This training will review HUD’s rules on calculating adjusted income and the rent formulas for programs covered under HUD Handbook 4350.3. We will begin with a discussion of what adjusted income is and why it is relevant to HUD sites. We will then review HUD’s five deductions: child care, dependent, disability assistance/apparatus, elderly/disabled and medical. We will discuss who is entitled to each of these deductions as well as the verification requirements and calculation methods. We will then discuss HUD’s rent formula, and review how rent is calculated for various HUD programs.
