What is the SHCM Certification? \nA. The Specialist in Housing Credit Management (SHCM) Certification has been developed by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) in partnership with The National Apartment Association (NAA) and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) especially for management professionals involved with properties developed and operated under the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. The SCHM is designed by management professionals for management professionals to ensure that they have attained the knowledge\, experience and competence required to excel in the housing credit property management industry. \nQ. Why do we need the SHCM Certification? \nA. To maximize their career\, managers in the affordable housing industry must be able to demonstrate their experience and expertise in mastering the complex requirements for the LIHTC program to their peers\, employers\, residents\, regulators and the general public. Earning your SHCM enables you to do just that. \nQ. How do I earn the SHCM Certification? \nA. To earn a SHCM\, candidates must successfully accumulate a minimum of 12 hours (actual instruction time) of housing credit specific coursework or training\, successfully pass the SHCM exam\, demonstrate a minimum of two years of housing credit management employment experience and submit the application. \nQ. Where can I get the SHCM Application? \nA. The application is available on- line at the following website:\nhttp://www.nahma.org/wp-content/uploads/files/SHCM%20Brochure%208%2005.pdf \nQ. Why is there a separate examination fee from the course tuition and registration? \nA. There are many approved providers of LIHTC Training. So that housing credit professionals who have achieved the required prerequisite training can take the optional SHCM certification exam\, it was decided that the test would be covered by a separate fee from the training curriculum. \nQ. How often will the SHCM examination be offered? \nA. NEAHMA is committed to providing you with the training you need to advance your career. Because we can not tell when an affordable housing professional will accomplish the prerequisites for SHCM designation\, we will offer the exam each time we provide LIHTC training.

SUMMARY:Housing Protections for Victims of Domestic Violence:  A Fair Housing Perspective © NEAHMA Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Gwen Volk\, InFocus\n\nREGISTER HERE \nWith its re-authorization in 2013\, VAWA now applies to all HUD\, Rural Development\, and IRS Section 42 (tax credit) housing developments. Although not “self-executing” because of its convergence with fair housing laws\, housing providers can’t afford to take a “wait and see” attitude until agencies issue their final guidance.  This course simplifies the current and pending rules and goes beyond VAWA with a review of relevant state laws and how these will impact management of both affordable and conventional housing.  Students are also challenged to decide how they would respond to typical scenarios.

SUMMARY:Service Programs on a Shoestring©
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Gwen Volk\, InFocus \nREGISTER HERE \nNot everyone is lucky enough to have professional service coordinator on staff.  Nor can all properties afford to hire an outside service contractor to coordinate their activities.  Tax credit properties and bond properties generally come with a requirement for programs to enrich the quality of life of residents but generally do not have budgets that provide much to invest in such things.  Take it from someone whose properties won two national awards- largely for their outstanding service programs – without benefit of large budgets or professional service coordination:   You too can do quality programs on a shoestring
