Harassment based on protected status has risen during the pandemic. HUD’s Fair Housing Office and the Justice Department, as well as the media, have focused attention on harassment of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and housing providers sexually harassing residents. This training will explore not only current data and provide examples of the behavior but explain the reasons why companies must be committed to cultivating a respectful workplace and living environment and seek to ensure inappropriate and harassing behavior is not a part of our housing communities. This class will review definitions of harassment, including sexual harassment and provides guidance on when, where, and how harassment can take place. We will focus on the varying roles people may find themselves in or perceived to be in: victim, observer, and harasser. We will also discuss the responsibility of supervisors, and the importance of knowing company policies and protocols, and reporting mechanisms.
