Presenter: Robert Chesson, Landlord Law Firm of Milford

All landlords hope they will not encounter problem tenants, and it is likely that you would never sign lease agreements with new tenants with the expectation that they will cause stress, headaches, or financial losses. Unfortunately, no matter how careful your screening process is, problem tenants are common among landlords in Connecticut, and you must handle the situation appropriately to protect your rights and interests as a landlord.

This seminar will guide you through the process of dealing with a problem tenant—whether it’s resolving the matter by eliminating the problem (for example, the tenant ceasing the offending behavior), or terminating the lease agreement and seeking an eviction. Join us for a discussion on a wide range of topics, with substantial time to address your questions and experiences with problem tenants, as we identify and present solutions that you can implement immediately to give you a plan and bring you peace of mind.  Common topics include:

  • Repeated late or missed rent payments
  • Unauthorized occupants
  • Housekeeping issues, including hoarding
  • Complaints from neighbors about excessive noise
  • Building, Housing, and/or Health Code violations
  • Illegal activity
  • Damage to property
  • Fair housing issues
